AMFA Accident Investigation Team

Call for Applicants September 27, 2023

AMFA is accepting applications for Accident Investigation Team (AIT) members at Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Horizon Air. We are seeking motivated, skilled professionals with knowledge and experience in maintenance, inspection, and safety (airframe, avionics, power plant, and records).

AIT members will be responsible for assisting the AIT Party Coordinator(s) with team administration, preparing an annual team budget, ensuring team members are appropriately trained, as well as accomplishing other duties as assigned by the National Safety and Standards Director (NSSD).

Please note that every team member is required to sign a four-year minimum commitment due to associated training costs. Additionally, AIT members who are assigned “party status” to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation for a major accident may be required to remain on the scene for an extended period of time –a few days or up to several weeks or months -- to perform their responsibilities until the investigation concludes. Your commitment to the team is important as these accidents do not always happen at the most opportune times and there are requirements that you need to comply with to remain current and to participate.

We are seeking AIT Member applicants from all Alaska, Horizon, and Southwest stations. Interested candidates should submit the attached application to your respective Local Safety and Standards Chair or tom.wiggins@amfanatl.org no later than 3:00PM ET on Monday, October 16, 2023. An interview process will be conducted in accordance with AMFA National Policy to select the Party Coordinators and Team Members as indicated below (applicants are responsible for their own transportation and hotel, if needed):

Alaska & Horizon: November 6-10 Seattle

Thomas Wiggins
National Safety and Standards Director
