South Seattle College Mentorship
Dec 03, 2024

Seattle AMFA Membership -

We have the opportunity to be a part of a company-sponsored mentorship program which would enable students currently enrolled in the AMT program at South Seattle College.  This offers students the ability to job shadow our work while we are on shift.  You would be their escort and afford them a first-person view of what the day in the life of a technician would be.  Currently we are limited to only the Hangar bid location for escort access.  They would follow you on your current shift and watch what you do on a day to day basis.

If you have an interest in becoming a mentor, please scan the QR code attached or CLICK HERE and fill out the survey to get started.  South currently has 50 students signed up to be a part of this with more likely signing up soon.

In case you need a reminder of how exciting our jobs are to someone on the outside, here are just a few of the students' responses when filling out their end of the survey...

  • SURVEY QUESTION: What do you think is the most valuable part of working in the Aviation Industry?
    • "I see aviation as the pinnacle of human innovation/advancement as a civilization and being a part of that incredible leap in advancement in our human history is really exciting to me. I grew up with a trampoline and have always loved the experience of flying in my dreams and in the iFly indoor skydiving wind tunnels. I always wanted to fly as a kid, and I really enjoyed swimming competitively as a kid because I thought it felt like flying."
    • "Working in the aviation industry offers exposure to diverse career opportunities, and the chance to collaborate with other people around the world. The industry provides stability and growth potential."
    • "The most valuable part of working in the aviation industry is the opportunity to contribute to global connectivity and life-saving missions, creating a positive impact on society. The field’s high standards in safety and constant innovation make it an exciting environment for continuous learning and growth."
    • "It’s hands-on (tangible) and I feel personally as though aviation is incredibly important. We can use aircraft as emergency transportation to save lives, we can fight wildfires with aircraft, and it allows people to see their families on other continents in a matter of hours. None of that would be possible without aviation. I want to be a part of that.
